TITLE:           THE WAR BETWEEN LETTERS AND NUMBERS



RECOMMENDED AGE GROUP: Level 2 (2nd cycle Primary)

CHARACTERS:

  • Letters:  they are proud and talkative. They want to control the world and expel the numbers.
  • Numbers: they are stubborn and cunning.
  • Journalists: they are attentive and observant. They pay attention to every single detail to report it.
  • Punctuation marks: they are kind, friendly and peaceful. They can recognize the virtues of other characters.

SYNOPSIS:
In the universe of the letters and numbers everything goes wrong. On the one hand, the numbers hate the letters because they always appeare on newspapers and make up the most beautiful songs. On the other hand, the letters are angry because the numbers dominate the economy and time. As a result, they get involved in a terrible war. Fortunately, some peaceful characters will come to help.

CHARACTER OBJECTIVES: 

-          Both letters and numbers want to control the universe.
-          The journalist want to report what has happened on stage.
-          The punctuation marks try to intervene to solve the situation so that everybody can live in peace.

SCENE BREAKDOWN:

Scene One: The scene is set in the universe of the letters and numbers. The numbers and letters argue among each other and start a war.
Scene Two: The scene is set in a TV studio. One journalist reports that there have been a lot of casualties of numbers. As a result, all the clocks have stopped. Another journalist informs that a lot of letters have died and consequently, a great number of dictionaries have disappeared.
Scene Three: The scene is set in the battlefield. Suddenly, a group of punctuation marks appear on stage wearing a mask. They talk to the numbers and letters and try to convince them to stop the war. They explain the numbers how important the letters are, because originally the letters formed the Roman Numbers. Conversely, they explain the letters how essential the numbers are to organize the pages of books, newspapers, etc. Finally, the punctuation marks leave the stage.
Scene Four: The scene is set in the battlefield. The numbers and letters think about it and decide to stop the war and become friends again. They also wonder who those masked characters were, but suddenly a letter finds a small note that solves the mystery:

“we have always been among you, trying to join you.
The punctuation marks"
